I’ve heard concrete can crack. Do you offer guarantees against this?
Concrete is a durable and versatile building material, but it's not immune to cracking. Understanding why concrete cracks can help you take proactive measures to prevent or address this common issue.

Concrete cracks can occur for various reasons, including:

Temperature Changes: Extreme temperature variations, especially freezing and thawing, can cause concrete to expand and contract, leading to cracks. Properly placed expansion joints can help mitigate this.

Excessive Load: Heavy loads, such as vehicles or heavy machinery, can stress concrete surfaces, leading to cracks over time. Proper design and reinforcement can reduce the risk of these cracks.

At Dixons Concreting, we construct all our concrete slabs to Australian standards. The quality of workmanship plays a vital role in reducing the likelihood of concrete cracking. We can’t guarantee our work against cracks because no good concreter would! We can, however, assure you that we will always provide you with aftercare to minimize the severity of cracking and we are always happy to discuss any concerns you might have.

Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, we do! If you want to pay in instalments, all we require is a 50% deposit to do the work. After that you can have the balance broken down into 4 automated payments, so you don’t have to put any more thought in to it.
I want a new driveway. Do I need to go through council for that?
Most driveways will need to have a crossover (the section that goes over the council strip) and a layback (the section that connects the road to the driveway) Council requires inspections during the construction process to ensure that everything is being made to their specifications.

When we come out to quote, we will advise you if your driveway needs to have council applications and we can also tell you what you’re allowed to do in terms of size and locations. We also apply to council for you, so you don’t have to!

What is Diamond Cutting?
Diamond cutting is a patterned, controlled cutting that is done to driveways to help minimize stress and expansion cracks. It is typically done just after the concrete has cured and many people opt for diamond cutting for the look, just as much as the benefits.

Diamond cutting can help redirect and reduce the volume of concrete cracks, but it is not a guarantee against cracking. Regardless of the quality and skill of the person cutting the concrete cracking and/or chipping to the concrete is still possible.

What is colour through and why do you offer it?
Colour through references a coloured concrete that is already tinted before it gets poured. The colour typically comes from an oxide that is added to the concrete at the concrete plant and is mixed through before it comes to your property.

We usually recommend colour through rather than colour sealers for longevity and colour consistency. Instead of the colour being applied over the top of the concrete (like many after-market commercial sealers) and needing to be touched up over time, the concrete is already coloured all the way through. This also fairs better for your concrete if it cracks or chips as the affected area isn’t nearly as obvious. If you then wish to seal your concrete, you can use a clear coat sealer to enhance the colour you’ve chosen and add additional protection to your concrete surface.

One thing to note about colour through is that gradual exposure to the sun will fade the colour. As mentioned above, you can apply a clear coat sealer to brighten the colour up and reduce the severity of the colour fade. This also means that if the colour seems quite dark upon completion, it will soften and lighten over time.

We have a multitude of colour through options and charts we can show you, if you’re interested.

Do you resurface or re-stamp concrete?
Unfortunately, no.

We are always happy to discuss options with you in terms of updating your tired or worn-out concrete, but we aren’t able to resurface your patterned concrete. There are lots of companies that specialize in resurfacing or updating concrete, and most of them offer free quotes.
